Client: Waterways Ireland
Project Overview
Dive and Marine Contractors were requested by Waterways Ireland to undertake the installation of dam beams at aid in Lock Gate Refurbishment at Roosky Lock, Co Roscommon. Works were carried out in conjunction and in close coordination with Waterways Ireland staff. The present lock which was built in the 1840's by the Shannon Commissioners to facilitate boat travel along the Shannon between Lough Bofin and Lough Forbes.
Dive and Marine Contractors personnel carried out a detailed dive inspection of the dam beam rails with follow-on removal of debris to allow for ease of installation. All works were coordinated from our mobile dive control. During the installation process, Dive and Marine Contractors lowered the beams into place insuring a sealed joint was achieved along the rails therefor eliminating any leaks during the pumping / dewatering process. On completion, the lock was pumped dry to allow detailed measurements to be obtained for the fabrication of new lock gates.
